Letti donates his KoEE 2012 Prize money for KoEE 2013 Pool!

The German Extreme Enduro top gun Andreas “Letti” Lettenbichler (Husqvarna) just made a very generous move by putting all of his 2012 prize money into the KoEE 2013 Prize Pool!

When we wanted to transfer the 2012 money to him, he came back saying: “Kings of Extreme Enduro is a great concept and I am happy to support it. The KoEE Ranking really puts things into perspective – not only from the rider’s perspective but also for fans and sponsors – and the prize pool certainly helps. I didn’t have the best of luck in the 2012 season but I will go flat out in 2013 and am looking forward to race Hell’s Gate on my Husqvarna in February!”

Extreme Lagares coming up next!

So we’re getting closer to the first weekend of October and – in our humble opinion – a super cool race, which is attracting more and more riders, is next in the Kings of Extreme Enduro calendar: Extreme Lagares in Portugal.

Some quick facts about Extreme Lagares:

Date: October 6&7
Location: Penafiel close to Porto, Portugal
Classes: PRO, XL, HOBBY
Website: extremelagares.com
Schedule: October 6: An enduro cross like prologue attracts thousands of spectators – who are remarkably enthusiastic. A great show not to be missed! Hobby starts at 15:00, XL at 19:00 and PRO shortly after!
October 7: Main race, two laps to go for PRO and XL, one for HOBBY. Lap time approximately 2 hours.
Expected number of finishers: Less than 5 in the PRO class!

As to the expected riders in PRO class, we believe that again there will be a strong presence of UK riders, Dougie Lampkin (last years winner), the Hemingways and Bolts just to mention a few. We’re not sure about Graham Jarvis so Jonny Walker might consider to come to close the gap in the KoEE Ranking! Xavi Galindo should be around and we hope Afredo Gomez will show up, too. Letti will also make it – so yes, the KoEE Ranking will look different after this race!

We spoke to Paulo Moreira Melicia, the Extreme Lagares mastermind about the 2012 edition:

KoEE: Are there major changes in the track compared to last year?
Paulo: Yes there are big changes in 2012, the headquarter will be in a much more lovely place, paddock and parc ferme will be inside the village where the spectators can easily walk by.

KoEE: How long is the track (1 lap) this year?
Paulo: About 2 hours.

KoEE: How long did it take you to prepare the track? We’ve seen photos and it looks like you are really putting a lot of effort into the track preparation!
Paulo: As soon as I finish cleaning 2011 edition I immediately started planning the 2012 race. So we’ve been working on the 2012 edition for a year now.

KoEE: How many riders do you expect in 2012 in which classes?
Paulo: This year we expect 30 pilots in PRO class, 20 in XL and 80 in the HOBBY.

KoEE: How many riders do you expect to finish within the official time?
Paulo: I believe in the PRO class the fingers on one hand will be enough to count the finishers.

KoEE: Will you start the qualifying race a bit earlier (so the top riders don’t have to wait as long as last year ;-) )
Paulo: Yes, last year taught us that we need to improve this. So we decided that the HOBBY class starts the prologue at 15:00, XL class at 19:00 and PRO immediately after.

KoEE: What’s the prize money?
Paulo: #1 in PRO class will get €3,000

KoEE: What is your guess for the pro class podium this year?
Paulo: May the best rider win …

Dougie Lampkin working his way up on one of the many steep uphills at EL 2011:

GoldenTyre 216X: Weapon of choice for the Kings?

GoldenTyre (GT) is gaining more and more ground in the Extreme Enduro scene in the past couple of years. The entire GT team seems to be totally obsessed by creating the best possible tires for the extreme environment. Jarvis, Letti and Xavi Galindo just to mention a few of the GT protagonists in the elite of Extreme Enduro.

Now there’s a new model coming up, the GT216X. Graham “Grimbo” Jarvis and Letti have (successfully) been using the GT216HB for quite a while and the GT216X is a variation of the HB with a modified carcass and a completely new rubber compound. The trial tire GT216 Trialera has a pretty similar rubber compound. From whatever we’ve heard so far, the GT216X seems to be the weapon of choice for many of the best Extreme Enduro riders out there.

Here’s what Letti has to say about the GT216X: “This one really works perfectly in the extreme terrain, it gets you whatever grip you could wish in stones and roots. GoldenTyre clearly built an extreme enduro tire that comes very close to the capabilities of a trials tire!”

Marco Caribotti (Team Manager Flite-Husaberg): “The 216X is the result of one year of testing with the entire team, and even though there are some similarities with the 216HB it’s pretty much a completely new tire. Besides Extreme Enduro the 216X has an outstanding performance in Enduro Cross. From this September on the 216X is available for the market together with the ‘Mousse Extreme’.

Jens Engelking, the Managing Director of Pnebo (the GT distributor in Germany) said that the GT216X will be officially introduced to the German market on the GetzenRodeo Extreme Enduro race in Saxony on November 10 – but it can be ordered starting in October.

For the German market check out www.goldentyre.de for more infos (in German).

Updated KoEE Ranking online after Erzberg and Romaniacs

The KoEE Ranking has been updated with the latest results from the Red Bull Romaniacs in and around Sibiu (Romania).

Looking at the updated ranking there are major changes:

  1. Graham Jarvis maintains his lead even though he was disqualified at Erzbergrodeo.
  2. Jonny Walker is closing in on Graham, just 8 points away.
  3. Letti made a good jump up in the ranking with his impressive 2nd place at the Romaniacs.
  4. A lot of top 10 Brits didn’t show up at the Romaniacs so they have lost a little ground.

A quick word about the Red Bull Romaniacs. At the initial riders briefing at the Red Bull Romaniacs mastermind Martin Freinademetz said something very interesting: “Thanks to my entire team for helping me to do make my dream come true: Doing the best race in the world!” You could feel that Martin is very serious about this and that he is willing to do what it takes to make this happen. Well, Martin, you are very close and on a very good way!

We have been there, the whole time and talked to many of the riders. All the guys we spoke to were stoked by this incredible race. Apart from some minor hiccups – which you will have at any race – nearly everything was close to perfect. And it was obvious that XVENTURE will analyse the 9th edition last week to make a truly perfect 10th anniversary in 2013.

The photo below shows Darryl Curtis, who also made it into the Ranking by competing at the Romaniacs, in a section called “Appetizer” – a very gentle and elegant way to get the bike up a bit higher than usual.

Who will beat Graham Jarvis at EBR and RBR?

Exciting times ahead of us! The 18th edition of the Red Bull Hare Scramble @ Erzbergrodeo is coming up this weekend (June 1o) and the Red Bull Romaniacs follows right next (June 13-17) – so the next KoEE points from 2 races will be added to the rider’s within just one week! Who will beat the Dominator from the UK, the “Silent Assassin” Graham “Grimbo” Jarvis on his Flite Husaberg?

So within just one week we can see dramatic changes in the KoEE Ranking! We will update the ranking immediately once the official results are out – and we’ll be one the first to get thim because we’re in the middle at EBR and RBR! So make sure to check the KoEE ranking and don’t forget to donate some money into the KoEE Prize Pool – 100% of it is going to the riders!!!

The Red Bull Hard Enduro Channel has done a nice video showing Grimbo’s hardest competitors. Enjoy!
